Operation Footprint In a combined effort by the Westlake Village Sunrise Rotary, Hospital San Felipe, the Baja Project and individual Peace Corps volunteers, a program nicknamed “Operation Footprint” brings US podiatric surgeons to Tegucigalpa, Honduras once a year. These surgeons operate free of charge on 30-40 Honduran children per year afflicted with club foot and other podiatric problems. Children from distant villages are also included in this program with their travel, lodging and food expenses paid by the fundraising of former Peace Corps volunteer and organizer Sandy Schultz and Mending Kids International.
Since 1999, almost 400 children have had their lives changed forever by the efforts of these hard working individuals. The surgery frees them from social stigma, gives them the ability to be productive members of their communities and in some cases, gives them the ability to walk for the first time.
